Serve

The people of Our Saviour’s Lutheran believe deeply that Jesus calls us to serve our neighbors–near and far.  Like the ways we care for one another, we serve the world around us both in organized and organic ways, but the organized ones are far easier to talk about on a website (you’ll just have to join us to experience the organic acts of service!).

  • On the first Friday of the month from 3:15-4:30 (unless there’s a holiday, so check the calendar for up to date info!) we play “Birthday Bingo” at Grayson Creek, an Assisted Living facility right down the road from us.  We love getting to know these neighbors of ours and it’s so fun to offer them a chance to relax and enjoy time together.  We bring silly prizes and play bingo together before singing “Happy Birthday” to anyone celebrating another year of life.  Then, of course, we eat cake and enjoy time together.  That’s all great, but even better is that the Junior Civitans from North Davidson High School and Oak Grove High School come and join us.  It’s fun and fulfilling for ALL of us!  Contact Pastor Andrea if you’d like to join us sometime.
  • Each Wednesday from 10 am to noon, several members from Our Saviour’s volunteer at Greater Things Outreach.  Greater Things is a  food bank run fully by volunteers who’s mission is to “help those in our community by fulfilling their physical and spiritual needs.”  Contact Pastor Andrea if you’d like to join us sometime.
  • We also send financial help to the following organizations who are doing remarkable work:
  • Our Women of the ELCA (WELCA) group also sponsors several  annual projects.
    • We keep the kitchen stocked and ready for bereavement meals and/or congregational gatherings.
    • We make and distribute “Zoom bags” for persons experiencing homelessness.
    • We collect monetary offerings for the work of the larger church to care for the poor throughout the world.
    • We purchase supplies and assemble two types of kits (personal care and school supply) to be sent across the world where there is need.
    • We support Lutheran Services of the Carolinas as they seek to care for the aging.
    • We collect pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House
  • Our Lutheran Men in Mission (LMIM) group is active in serving or neighbors as well!
    • Each year, we hold a golf tournament to raise funds for ministry.  This year, the tournament will be held on April 28th!  We’d love for you to come out and play!  Click here for more information.
    • We support children who are in need at the nearby schools with the help of a school social worker.  This support often takes the form of Christmas gifts, school supplies, clothing, etc.
    • We support Greater Things Outreach Center by providing food, supplies, monies and volunteers.
    • We take care of many of maintenance of the parking lot used by the library and the church.
    • We prepare and serve meals throughout the year that are open to the community.  These include Shrove Tuesday, Easter breakfast, a tomato and sweetcorn feed in late summer.
